Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area, is a striking display of nature’s power and beauty. Named for the dramatic Murchison Falls, where the Nile is forced through a narrow gorge before plunging into a thunderous cascade, the park’s expansive savanna, woodlands, and riverine forests host a rich diversity of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles. Boat cruises reveal hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, and abundant birdlife, while game drives uncover lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, warthogs, and primates.
Nearby Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda’s smallest savannah park, offers rolling hills, acacia woodlands, open savannah, and inter connected lakes. Itinerary Details
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls, Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Boat Cruise
Your adventure begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. You’ll embark on a scenic drive to Murchison Falls National.
The first stop is Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you can see wild rhinos in their natural habitat. Take part in a guided walking safari, getting up close to these magnificent creatures while learning about conservation efforts aimed at protecting Uganda’s rhino population.
Continue your journey to Murchison falls National park reaching in time for the afternoon boat cruise along the Nile River to the base of the powerful
Murchison Falls. This leisurely cruise offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities—expect to see hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, and adiverse array of waterbirds, including kingfishers, fish eagles, and herons. For birding enthusiasts, this is a highlight not to miss.
Day 2: Game Drive, Top of the Falls Experience, Transfer to Kibaale
Start the day with a morning game drive across Murchison’s vast savannah plains. Watch out for a vast array of animals including lions, giraffes, elephants, buffalo, antelope and an incredible variety of birdlife. This safari experience offers a chance to witness Uganda’s rich wildlife in its natural habitat.
In the afternoon, visit the top of Murchison Falls, where the mighty Nile crashes through a narrow gorge before plunging 45 meters below. This dramatic viewpoint provides stunning photo opportunities and an awe-inspiring perspective of the park’s name sake attraction.
Later, depart for a scenic transfer to Kibaale, travelling through picturesquevillages, tea plantations, and lush green hills that characterise Uganda’swestern region
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking, Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Wake to the forest’s call and embark on a thrilling chimpanzee trek in Kibaale National Park, home to Africa’s densest primate population. Guided through lush rainforest, spot chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, and Mangabeys in their natural habitat for an unforgettable wildlife experience.
In the afternoon, depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’smost celebrated and bio-diverse parks. The drive showcases the picturesque countryside of western Uganda.
Day 4: Game Drive (Kasenyi) and Evening Boat Cruise
After an early breakfast, we shall head out for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains to see various animals. Kasenyi Plains is the best site for a rewarding game drive in the park since it hosts populations of wildlife and acts as a breeding ground for the Uganda kobs. The Uganda Kobs attract many carnivals to this place as their favourite prey. The Game Drive lasts 3-5hours after which you will head back to your hotel for Lunch and some rest.
In the afternoon, transfer to the pier for the boat cruise experience on the Kazinga channel. The cruise exposes you to another game-viewing adventure on the shores of the channel. Many animals congregate here to take water and quench off their thirst. Enjoy sights of the hippos and Nile crocodiles wallowing at the shores of the basin. It is of great importance to note that the Kazinga channel hosts the biggest populations of hippos in the world. Later return to your hotel and have dinner later.
Day 5: Morning Game drive (Ishasha area), Transfer to Lake Mburo National park
Early in the morning, we embark on a game drive in the Ishasha area of QueenElizabeth National Park. A game drive in the Ishasha area offers an unforgettable wildlife experience in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Thisscenic savanna is famous for its rare tree-climbing lions often seen lounging in fig trees. Visitors also spot elephants, buffaloes, topis and antelopes roaming the plains. The area’s open landscapes and rich bird life makeit aperfect destination for photography and nature enthusiasts.
In the afternoon, transfer to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Lake Mburo National Park offers stunning scenery across western Uganda. Traveling about 3–4 hours, you pass rolling hills, banana plantations, and villages bustling with life. The route winds through Mbarara, where you can stop for refreshment, before entering Lake Mburo’s serene savanna dotted with zebras and acacias
Day 6: Game Drive, Boat Cruise and Transfer to Kampala
After an early morning breakfast, We shall Embark on an exciting game drive at Lake Mburo National Park, renowned for its rolling hills, open savannah, and acacia woodlands. Witness a variety of wildlife, including zebras, impalas, elands, giraffes, buffaloes, and numerous bird species, all thriving in their
natural habitat.
In the afternoon, embark on a serene boat cruise on Lake Mburo, observing hippos, crocodiles, and waterbirds such as African fish eagles, pied kingfishers, and the rare African finfoot.
After that experience, drive back to Kampala, concluding your safari.
